Don’t Forget To Give Thanks Even When It’s Not Easy
There are times when we are having a bad day or a rough go of things. The boss is being insensitive, a tough medical diagnosis just came down the pike,or we just lost our jobs; how can we give thanks? OlyLife does not want to promote being a phony. When bad stuff happens it stinks and we should talk about it, figure out how to handle things and remember that even in our times of trouble we should be grateful.
This doesn’t mean that we should say, “I’m glad that God just provided me with having a bad day”, or “I’m thankful for that car crash where I have lost an arm.” Of course, losing a limb would be a horrible tragedy and one where there would be feelings of great loss and suffering; so we should be sad and ask for the strength and wisdom to figure out how to carry on.
In doing so, we might find that God comes beside us to help us figure things out and we can approach Him with gratitude even in the midst of our difficulties. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Even when we are having a bad day this applies.
Give Thanks And Make The Most Of Your One and Only Life – That’s OlyLife!
Recently we listened to a presentation by Joni Eareckson Tada who is a lovely example of Christ’s heart at work for others despite her own personal difficulties. For those of you who are not familiar with Joni’s story, a diving accident in Chesapeake Bay left her paralyzed from the neck down. She now lives an extraordinary life, where despite the fact that others must help her get bathed, dressed, teeth and hair brushed, placed in a wheel chair every morning; Joni speaks to the joys and blessings of following a life in Christ and encourages others to reach out and bless others who have special needs or who could use some compassion.
Joni could have lived a life of despair, but instead she chose to give thanks to a gracious God and to dedicate her life to being a blessing to others. We at OlyLife continue to be blown away by her example of giving thanks to God despite difficult circumstances. Check out Joni’s blog
Do You Give Thanks Despite Having A Bad Day?
God never promised us an easy road and clearly, some of our lives are easier than others. All of us can benefit by thinking of how God could humble a proud heart in a mere second and begin to appreciate how we might live with more gratitude.
Give Thanks even when you are having a bad day and you will be blessed; and in the process be a blessing to others. When others are inspired by your grateful heart during tough times, you are steps closer to making the most of your one and only life – That’s OlyLife!
