In today’s world where we are all in a rush, many parents have to struggle to find time to bond with their children. Most working parents wake up early, kiss their kids goodbye, rush off to work and come back late at the night just in time to tuck their children in bed. You may think that a few minutes of conversation each day is enough but, according to psychiatrists, you’ll need more than this to foster parent-child bonding.
Here are some reasons why family time is important.
First, spending quality time with your children will allow you to keep track of their activities. Children are naturally talkative. They will have a hard time hiding stuff from you if you constantly ask them how their day went or what happened.
Second, spending time with your kids will allow you to form a strong bond with them. But it’s better to start while they are young. This way, they won’t be so easily swayed by the wrong crowd when they grow up.
Third, allowing time for family bonding creates good memories. As they say, nothing is more important than building good memories with your family. Because when you are old and gray, you won’t be thinking about how much money you have or the material things that you possess. What you will be thinking about is how much time you have spent with your family and the memories you share.
Fourth, it is by spending time with your children that you can guide them to grow up as responsible and respectful adults. There are values that are emphasized in each family. If you want your kids to emulate certain values, don’t just tell them. Show them. And you can only do this if you spend a lot of time with them.
Fifth, time with your kids is the greatest gift you can give them. You may be able to give your children the latest gadgets, designer clothes and the coolest cars, but without your physical presence, all these wont amount to much. In a way, your children might be made to feel like you are exchanging your time with them for money. The greatest gift you can give your kids is time because time is priceless. Once you spend it, you can never get it back. In a way, you are giving your kids a piece of you that will be theirs forever.
One main reason why many kids are now into drugs or are such trouble makers is because their parents don’t take the time to watch over them.
