Whether You Are A Teen, College Student, Wall Street Investor or Homemaker; Resist Peer Pressure

Regardless of where we are in life, we must often fight to resist peer pressure.  When we are young there are the pressures of those trying to entangle us in the web of smoking, alcohol or drugs.  Later, the pressure might be to try to keep up with the Jones family in material possessions.  Perhaps there are those on Wall Street who get caught up in the pressure to skirt the rules in order to keep up with their peers in making the quick buck.  Whatever, our situation, we should work really hard to resist peer pressure and to discern with wisdom what actions are best for our lives.  The Bible tells us in Exodus 23:2 “Do Not Follow The Crowd In Doing Wrong. ”  This may in fact be easier to say than to do, but if we want to avoid pitfalls that often will bring sadness to our life, we should seek to always do the right thing and resist peer pressure to do otherwise.

It Can Be Hard To Resist Peer Pressure

Listen, those of us who have had teenagers know that today’s kids are under tremendous pressures from their peers.  There is almost no getting away from it as our youth are so connected to one another beyond the school day with facebook and other social media.  It is our responsibility as adults to help them resist peer pressure and to guide them on their best spiritual path.  In the working world, there are pressures to fit in and to go along with the crowd, even when we know that things are not quite on the up and up.  In these cases, OlyLife encourages you to resist peer pressure and to make known your ethical stance.  This way you can refuse to participate in inappropriate conduct and keep yourself on the right track.  You may not “win” in the short term, but in the long run you will be glad that you handled yourself with integrity and that you were able to resist peer pressure.  When you always love God and love People by living the golden rule and doing the right thing rather than following the crowd, you will be making the most of your one and only life – That’s OlyLife!
