What Counsel Do You Seek When Making Plans?
Have you ever rushed into making plans for your spring, summer or year ahead without taking time to seek counsel? You may be thinking that there’s no reason to consult others when making plans for my vacations, career, or family life; but OlyLife suggests otherwise. All of us can benefit by slowing down to take in wisdom before we establish our own plans for the days and months ahead. The Holy Bible tells us in James 4:14 -15 ”Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” The counsel we are encouraged to seek is the wisdom of God. Before we make our own plans, the Bible lays out a path that suggests we should seek God’s advice for our life through prayer and meditation on His word. In this way, we are more likely to make better decisions when making plans and to accept the outcomes when things don’t turn out as planned.
The Lord’s Will When Making Plans
Sometimes it is crystal clear when it comes to discerning the Lord’s will when making plans. If a group of co-workers wants to go to a strip club after dinner, you may feel a very strong message that neither the Lord nor your wife would appreciate such a move. In other instances, it is not easy to discern what God wants you to do. In these times where God leaves the decision totally in your hands, you can pray that the outcome is pleasing to God. In the end, it may or may not work out; but if you pray that God’s will be done then you are on the right spiritual path. When we are making plans while saying “Lord willing”, we are closer to making the most of our one and only life – That’s OlyLife!
