If you want to help your child get a great education, then help him or her to find a passion – something that they just love to do. This can start with home projects like building a lego robot, a hobby such as cultivating insect eating plants, or other interest such as painting or writing short stories. When you introduce different ideas and “play activities” to your child, you can over time tell which areas start to create a real spark of interest.
When Children Find A Passion, They Learn Fast
Once you feed this interest the spark can ignite and you may even get more than you bargained for. Before you know it, half of your basement can be set up as a bog to grow exotic carnivorous plants or perhaps you can’t find your youngster because they are squirreled away immersed in the writing of a new thriller/horror story about the goat that ate the homework assignment.
School Is Important And Must Come First – An Area Of Passion Will Fuel The Fire
When children learn to develop skills in a unique way, it helps differentiate them from the crowd and allows them to build a secure sense of who they are and what can be accomplished when they set their mind to a task. If your daughter loves to paint, then do what you can to provide a good work area and the supplies and resources to learn and explore her passion. Before you know it, that girl may grow up to earn a scholarship that pays for some of her college education. (Even if she doesn’t study art!)
Find A Passion By Presenting Options
Whether it is computer programing, cryptography, geology, reading, making movies, wood working, building skate boards, writing a book, playing piano, it all involves children learning something new and taking steps to increase their skill while enjoying themselves. A word of caution… you should encourage your child, but don’t force them to accept your idea of a “passion” … if there is no enthusiasm and desire from the child – it is by definition not a passion! There can be lots of try this… ok, how ’bout this or that… what do you think…. once the child has found something they really enjoy, forget about it… you won’t have to say a word. It will be “Mom or Dad, do you think I could get the new x or y component for the amplifier on the bass guitar…. or I’d like to learn the next level of html can we get stop at Barnes and Nobles to pick up a book…
Finding A Passions Makes the World More Interesting
When you have helped your child find a passion, the family discussions can be more interesting as the children light up when they talk about what they are doing and how things are progressing. This is much better than the alternative, a child who grows to be a teenager in high school who has little or no passion for any specific area. These kids may have nothing besides video games or television to occupy their time or to keep them from going out and hanging with the wrong crowd. If your children are immersed in an activity that they are passionate about, they often don’t have time to waste on tv or getting into trouble.
