Get In Shape One Step At A Time
If you are out of shape and want to get fit and improve your life, OlyLife suggests that once you have your physician’s approval, don’t try to do everything at once. Bite size goals may lead to greater success in the longer run.
Getting In Shape – Gung Ho May Lead To Burn Out
We don’t want to dampen any new found enthusiasm for taking control of your health and fitness and your efforts to get in shape. OlyLife is suggesting that if you try to do too much too fast, you can suffer from injury, severe fatigue, or burn out due to starting a regimen that is too rigorous. If your doctor has approved your diet and exercise plan, then we suggest you follow his or her recommendation which will usually be to start out slow and to set reasonable goals.
How To Eat A Hippopotamus
You’ve likely heard the often quoted adage that the way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time (same with hippos.) The notion being, that you should set bite sized goals (no, not three pounds a week, one pound a week!) If you set reasonable goals then you can make incremental improvements that are likely to last. When we rush and take off too much weight too fast, our bodies can’t adjust and we end up sending the message that we are starving and we quickly put the weight back on. By setting a small goal that is very achievable then over time we can see that we have truly eaten the hippo!
A person who strives for one pound a week and hits it will lose 52 pounds in a year and is likely to have been able to adapt to a new life-style over time. So the lesson here is get in shape with small goals and celebrate your small successes which will motivate you to keep going and when you look back at what you have accomplished you will be one step closer to making the most of your one and only life – That’s OlyLife!
