Cluttered Desk – Cluttered Mind?
Is your desk a mess on top, in the drawers, or in the files? If you find yourself hunting for a piece of paper or files on a regular basis, you might be disorganized! When our desks are organized in a systematic way, it’s much easier to locate important information or office supplies very quickly. This equals less stress for you! Get organized and see if this doesn’t help to improve your life.
Get Started Now
You first have to find the time to evaluate your situation, and then make a plan of attack on your cluttered mess. So, consider going into your office a bit early every morning for a week to do just this.
Use the Shredder and the Trash Can
Now is your chance to get rid of things you don’t need or haven’t used for the past year. Low priority notes from a meeting 3 years ago should probably be shredded. A spare pair of shoes in your bottom drawer? A bag of granola from 2008? A pen that has run out of ink? Trash it! You’re on your way to getting organized.
Efficient For You And Positive Message For Others
When you have a well organized desk space, you will only have a few files or work matters on your desktop at any given time. Those files will be things that you are actively working on or those you will be referring to shortly. This helps you to stay focused and not get distracted. As a bonus, you will be telegraphing the message that you are an organized person who is able to manage the workload quite well.
Stop Trying to Prove How Busy You Are
Now, there are some folks who think that a desk with a hundred files on it shows that they are busy and that may well be, but it also shows a lack of organization. If you ask that person to find something, it will take a bit, but an organized person will go over to his or her credenza and pull out the file in a jiffy.
Technology Helps With Organization
The good news is that more of our work is able to be scanned into a computer file, helping to manage paper clutter. Take advantage of this technology if it is available to you.
